Professor Jane Denny to Speak at Congregation B’Nai Israel

Jane Denny, adjunct professor of history at Brookdale Community College and education director of the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights, and Genocide Education (Chhange), will speak on “A Jewish Response to Charlottesville” at Congregation B’nai Israel on Sunday, October 15 at 11:15 a.m.

When Americans were shocked to see the white supremacists’ torchlight parade in Charlottesville, most thought of fiery Ku Klux Klan meetings with burning crosses. However, Jews worldwide saw other torchlight parades, those of the infamous Nazi rallies. And, indeed, prominently among the united right ralliers were neo-Nazis, with their Tuetonic symbols and Hitlerite taunts.

Professor Denny recently retired from an esteemed career at Rumson Country Day School and has been a lifetime advocate and champion of human rights. This program is free and open to the public. All are welcome. Bagels and coffee will be served. Donations are appreciated. For further information and registration, contact executive director Emilie Kovit-Meyer at or (732) 842-1800, ext. 203. This event is sponsored by the CBI Adult Education Committee. Congregation B’nai Israel is located at 171 Ridge Road in Rumson.
