Colts Neck Community Concert Band Announces Spring Concerts

If you appreciate high quality musical performances by area musicians, then you will want to mark your calendars for the spring concert series of the Colts Neck Community Concert Band’s 17th season!

The band will feature its trombone section in Norman Leyden’s Concert for Trombone and Band, and the brass section in Fanfare from La Peri, by Dukas. Mike Nelson, principal bassoonist in the band, will be featured in Fucik’s The Old Sorehead.  Classical works will include: Holst’s First Suite in E Flat, Bernstein’s Candide, Pavanne by Morton Gould, and two John Williams pieces: March from 1941 and Hymn to the Fallen. March enthusiasts will enjoy Duble’s Bravura and Sousa’s The Stars and Stripes Forever, and for lovers of show tunes, the band will play a medley of Gershwin songs.  Summer Nights by R.W. Smith, Street Tango by Astor Piazzolla, and Mambo Italiano by Bob Merrill will add energy and excitement to the performances.

The concerts will be presented on Thursday, May 16th at 7:30 PM at Colts Neck High School, Five Point Road and on Thursday, June 6th in an open-air concert in Monmouth County’s beautiful Thompson Park, Rt. 520, Newman Springs Rd., Lincroft at 7:30 PM in the Activity Barn. In addition to its concert series, the Band will perform at the Colts Neck fireworks on Wednesday, July 3rd, at Bucks Mill Park, Colts Neck.

The Colts Neck Community Concert Band has been hailed as one of the finest concert bands in the state of New Jersey. Founded by the late Richard Frankle, the band’s members possess a wide range of musical backgrounds, from accomplished amateurs to seasoned professionals, who range in age from high school students to senior citizens. This talented group of musicians is under the guidance of its music director Kelly Tyma, who, along with conductors Mel Chayette, David Crosby, Eric Robertshaw and Don Swinchoski, lead the group in a diverse musical repertoire of marches, classical music, show tunes, and pop music to please all who enjoy listening to concert bands.
