Talk Around Town: Summer Memories

“During the summer of 2019, I went on vacation with my wife to Puerto Rico – it was our first vacation without our kids. A few weeks later, the entire family did our own California adventure. The highlights were the history and restaurants in Old San Juan, Disneyland, and a Dodgers Game.” -Glenn Jansen, social studies teacher at Colts Neck High School
“My husband, Jim, and I have lived in Colts Neck for 37 years and raised four children who enjoyed their summers here, especially the close proximity to the beach! We all also enjoyed the Colts Neck Fair and the fireworks which sadly was discontinued until the Colts Neck Business Association decided to bring back the fireworks in 2016. That Independence Day Celebration, always held on July 3, is one of my favorites as it is a community, family event with fireworks and even an apple pie contest!” -Sue Fitzpatrick, mayor of Colts Neck Township
“For so many people, including myself, Strollo’s Lighthouse is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of ‘home’ at the Jersey Shore. For the past 33 years, I’ve felt that same feeling through my customers. Starting as a worker at the window at age 14, and for the past nine years as the manager of our Point Pleasant location, you can always sense the joy people feel whether it’s their first or millionth time at the window. There’s nothing quite like keeping memories going year after year, especially when they are your own; that makes it even more special!” -Angela Teeple, manager of Strollo’s Lighthouse
“At the very end of the school year last year, my friends and I went to a picnic at Bucks Mill Park to culminate the year with our drama club. We all brought food, many people baked desserts, and our director brought Spikeball. It was a wonderful way to end the school year and welcome summer, bringing our department closer together. It especially helped my friend Olivia and I bond by reminiscing about the year we’d spent together.” -Juliana Magarelli, student at Colts Neck High School
“I remember coming home from work and joining the family in the backyard. The kids were in the swimming pool with their friends. My wife was in the hot tub listening to soft music and drinking a glass of wine. My thoughts were, ‘This is why it’s all worth it. This is where happiness and memories are made.’” -Steven Metz, owner of Central Jersey Pools
