Special Events for July 2017

July 1 through 26

“Summer Show of Painters” Exhibit – at the Guild of Creative Art, 620 Broad Street, Shrewsbury.                 Summery images will delight the eye in The Guild of Creative Art’s cool main gallery during the month of July. The all-member, all-media exhibit will feature an opening reception on Sunday, July 9 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Painters will exhibit their inspirational works in an assortment of media, including acrylic, oil, pastel, and watercolor. In addition, art by Guild exhibiting and associate members, reflecting an assortment of media and subject matter, will be on display in the lobby. Hours during July are Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Guild is closed on Mondays, except for classes. July 4 through 8

Atlantic Highlands Fireman’s Fair – starting at 6:00 p.m. each night at the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor. Five nights of fun and entertainment, with games, rides, a food court with local vendors, live music, and more. An all-new fireworks display will be held on Friday, July 7 at 9:45 p.m. (rain date is July 8). Bracelets available to pay one price and ride all night, every evening except fireworks night. Additional parking and shuttle buses will be available on fireworks night at St. Agnes Church on Center Avenue, Fireman’s Field at Avenue C and West Highland Avenue, and the Masonic Lodge at East Garfield Avenue. Gratitude Migration – on the beach in Keansburg. “Hairspray” to Benefit the Ashley Lauren Foundation – at the Strand Theatre, 400 Clifton Avenue, Lakewood. Presented by the Ashley Lauren Foundation Theatre Ensemble, the theatrical arm of The Ashley Lauren Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing hope and help to children throughout New Jersey who suffer from cancer through financial, material, and emotional support. Performances will be held on July 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and July 16 at 2:00 p.m. The 1950s are out and change is in the air! “Hairspray,” winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs. It’s 1962 in Baltimore and the lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has only one desire: to dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her newfound power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a TV network… all without denting her ‘do! “The ManOpause Boys” – at the Duncan Smith Theatre, 36 Crawfords Corner Road, Holmdel. Great music and side-splitting humor collide when four lifelong friends share their post-50 journal of men going through “manopause.” An upbeat, hilarious comedy revue, this show is funny, clever, and delivers a memorable evening of laughter. Ladies’ Day at Monmouth Park – at Monmouth Park Racetrack, 175 Oceanport Avenue, Oceanport. It’s all about the beautiful dresses and Derby hats, as Monmouth Park – known as “The Shore’s Greatest Stretch” – kicks off the weekend of this month’s $1,000,000 Betfair.com Haskell Invitational race in style! The exciting Haskell event will be held on Sunday, July 30, but the day before, Saturday, July 29, is Ladies’ Day at Monmouth Park, sponsored by Lilly Pulitzer Shops at Riverside. This year, the racetrack is thrilled to be partnering with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation to raise both awareness and funds, with a portion of every paid admission going to this great cause. Come dressed to impress and be asked to participate in the ladies’ hat contest for great Lilly Pulitzer prizes. Don’t miss the Lilly Pulitzer fashion show at 1:30 p.m. at the Lady’s Secret Café, showcasing the season’s best new styles and designs.
