Brielle Senior Nominated for Basie Leading Actress Award

Lucy McGinty of Brielle, a senior at Ranney School in Tinton Falls, has been nominated for a Basie Award for Leading Actress in a Musical. Lucy played “Doria” in the Upper School’s spring production of SMILE. This is Lucy’s second Basie nomination; her first was for the role of “Lucy Brown” in Ranney’s 2014 production of The Three Penny Opera.

Numerous Ranney thespians have been nominated for Basie awards over the years, including the following award recipients:

  • Karl Brand, Class of 2016, Lead Actor (“Fluthur Good” in The Plough and the Stars)
  • Whitney Kelly, Class of 2014, Lead Actress (“Mrs. Peachum in The ThreePenny Opera)
  • Ben Puvalowski, Class of 2013, Lead Actor (“Toby Belch in Twelfth Night)
  • Ben Puvalowski, Class of 2013, Supporting Actor (“Kolenkoff” in You Can’t Take it with You)
  • Evelyn Giovine, Class of 2012, Special Basie (Alice in Wonderland)
  • Kara Santora, Class of 2010, Supporting Actress (“Nurse” in Romeo and Juliet)

Lucy, who plans to attend Lehigh University, has served as president of Ranney’s Class of 2017. She recently noted, “From running through the rain at Frost Valley to walking down the aisle at graduation, we have created memories that will last forever. As I look among my class I am so proud to see how far we have come, to see everyone committed to the college of their choice and ready to take on their future endeavors. I am so thankful for the friendships I have made over the past four years and can’t wait to see where life takes the Class of 2017.”
