When it Comes to Business Success ‘Just Don’t Stop’

By Glen J. Dalakian Sr.

Are you paying attention to the big picture? Do you have your eyes on the prize, not on the price? Are you considering all the angles? Today, more than ever, entrepreneurs need to have eyes in the back of their heads. More important than ever is insight and vision – all words you have heard before, but never in my business career have they been more relevant.

Evaluating our businesses is an important process that most of us do not do often enough. Market trends, return on investments and new opportunities all need to be in the mix as we navigate through some tough times. I am not just referring to the pandemic, but all the other things including economic downturn, political uncertainty, social unrest and new perspectives from our clients, which all are rattling our organizations.

Here is the good news; we are still living in America, and if you have a business, you are getting up each morning to head to work, and you have the positive mindset to be reading this article. You know what you have done to get where you are. You are watching around you and paddling to keep going. You are peering into the future, like all of us, with a little more uncertainty. But you can clear the hurdles! Business as we know it may have changed, but isn’t that what it has always done? Maybe things are moving faster and in ways we never expected, but change is expected nonetheless.

So, what am I getting at? If there has ever been a time to be smarter and work harder, this is it. Think first to see how you need to adjust (staff, products, expenses, client types, etc.) and then hit it hard.  Your team will be inspired when they see you are digging in, not lying back. I have learned that the speed of the leader determines the speed of the group. Yes, there will be a day we can back off a bit and enjoy the fruits of our labor, but in my opinion, right now is not it.

All this is maybe not what we want to hear, but business owners need to get it straight and recognize what has to be done to overcome the current challenges. I truly believe there are good times ahead for those who stay the course and work through all the noise. Some companies may fail, but our communities and nation need you to succeed as small businesses are still the backbone of this country.

I hope for continued success for you and all entrepreneurs who are willing to work hard and bring us all to better days. Together we can accomplish great things, as Americans have done so many times before.  Lean on your experience, seek wisdom and do what must be done to go beyond survival to achieve greater success.

One of my mentors once told me, “When you are going through hell, just don’t stop!”
