Welcome Neighborhood Atlantic Age Management George

Atlantic Age Management is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date evidence-based, scientific information and treatment for menopause and andropause /male menopause).

Dr. George Trim, aย Board Certified gynecologist, stays current by devoting his educational time to specialized courses, conferences and literature that are dedicated to Hormone Replacement Therapy /HRT).

We all know that life changes after 50, but what issues inspire women to seek out HRT? Women want to address and resolve common symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, depression, heart palpitations, lack of sex drive, painful intercourse, vaginal dryness, lack of motivation or apathy, increased body fat decrease in muscle tone, brain fog, as well as memory loss, irritable bladder and more.

In addition, with the onset of menopause, women are less able to cope with stress. Hormone therapy is not a cure-all for all diseases or problems, but certainly it is the most effective way of dealing with many symptoms. To maintain health and quality of life after age 50, Dr. Trim recommends eating a healthy, Mediterranean diet; exercising regularly; and considering supplementing diminished hormones with natural hormone replacement therapy.

How does HRT help? As most know, we are the healthiest in our 20s and 30s, when our hormones are naturally at their peak. Most of us want to grow old, but not the way our parents or grandparents did. We want to be more active and remain active as time goes on. HRT is one way to do that. People shy away from it because they don’t understand that hormone replacement is not like taking medicine. Hormones are natural substances in the body that decline and need to be replaced just as you would a non-functioning thyroid or pancreas.

Can men also benefit from HRT? Yes, because menโ€™s testosterone levels begin to decline in their 20s to 30s, although there’s not quite as dramatic a change in men as with women. Some men start to see changes such as a decrease in muscle mass, decreased sex drive, fatigue and increased fat around the abdomen. Low testosterone levels can lead to heart disease, diabetes and other significant health risks.

What is the single most important message about HRT? It is safe and effective. The 2002 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) caused an uproar in the medical community and substantially decreased the use of HRT because it was initially misinterpreted and never adequately corrected. This caused a great disservice to women. Actually, there is an approximate 37 percent reduction in death from all causes in women who use HRT versus those who do not.

The fact is that both men and women suffer deteriorating health because of lack of hormones. The problem with the WHI study was that the average age was 64, when people already had the onset of diseases that occur after menopause. The fact is that HRT does not cause breast cancer. According to the E3N study from France, which involved more than 80,000 women, there is no increased risk of breast cancer when estrogen is used with natural progesterone.

For HRT treatment, Dr. Trim recommends and practices the use of tiny, implantable hormone pellets in customized doses for his patients. Pellet therapy is the superior method of hormone delivery because the pellets work directly with the body. The hormones are secreted in small amounts throughout the day. When the body requires more hormones due to mental stress, the pellets are available 24 hours a day in the correct dosage for the body to use. No other delivery method (pills, patches, creams, gels) can offer the consistency of hormones released into the bloodstream. New literature reinforces the safety and health benefits of hormone replacement therapy.
