Voice Your Opinion on Offshore Drilling

By Lori Draz

On January 4, a press release from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) began, “U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced the next step for responsibly developing the National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program (National OCS Program) for 2019-2024, which proposes to make over 90 percent of the total OCS acreage and more than 98 percent of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources in federal offshore areas available to consider for future exploration and development.”

Clean Ocean Action (COA) will hold a Public Hearing on Valentine’s Day to oppose offshore oil drilling, which coincides with BOEM’s Public Meeting. Both events will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn, in Hamilton, NJ from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on February 14.

BOEM will be hosting public meetings across the country where written comments can be submitted.
