VNA Beach Ball Returns

By Lori Draz

Lynn Spector, 2017 honorees Tom and Liz Thees, and Dr. Steven Landers, president and CEO of VNA Health Group

Following an incredible first Beach Ball in 2016, the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group is excited to announce that it’s time to kick off your shoes, head for the sand and surf, and do it all again. The 2017 Beach Ball is set for Saturday, September 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chapel Beach Club in Sea Bright. The event will raise funds to support VNA Health Group’s mission of caring for patients in need who rely on a broad array of community-based health programs, vital preventive and primary health care, as well as supportive services. This year, longtime VNA Board of Trustees members Liz and Tom Thees of Rumson will be honored for their commitment and contributions to the organization.

“We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response to this new event,” said Jill Drummond of Little Silver, who, along with her husband Jamie, joins Vanessa and Sandy Mulheren (Rumson) and Maryam and Jesse Spector (Rumson) as co-chairs of the Beach Ball. “It truly was a magical evening. The committee is looking forward to even more fun surprises this year.”

Beach Ball attendees will enjoy an array of gastronomic offerings from some of the area’s most popular food trucks and local restaurants, with delights like mouthwatering barbecue, unique sliders, and classic New Jersey corn, tomatoes, and pork roll to macaroni and cheese, sushi, and tempting ice cream concoctions. There will be selfies from the The Selfie Social photo station and libations from the ‘Bellini and ‘Tini Bar and the Cocktail Caravan, along with the dance music of Rhythm Shop.

Sandy Mulheren explains, “We now have a dedicated event website, www.vnahgbeachball.org. In addition, there will be a virtual online ad journal on the website, as well as mobile devices and display screens at the event. We are hoping this will increase engagement with the Beach Ball and the VNA Health Group, both by attendees and those who may not be able to join us this year.”

“Auction items will also be posted online prior to the event,” added Maryam Spector. “They include unique experience packages, chic jewelry, and sophisticated artwork, which you can bid on whether or not you can attend.” The grand prize is a 2016 Rocky Ridge Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 4×4. A limited number of raffle tickets will be available for purchase throughout the summer months.

Honorees Liz and Tom Thees have been dedicated and generous members of the VNA Health Group community for more than a decade and were the recipients of the 2012 Judith Stanley Coleman Award in recognition of their exceptional service in community health. The Thees sponsored and hosted the annual Children and Family Day – Hearts of Remembrance annual grief support day at their Rumson home from 2008 to 2013.

Mrs. Thees has been a Foundation Board Trustee for more than 10 years and has served as vice chairman since 2016. She served on the VNA Health Group Bereavement Committee and played an integral role in special events, including the Stately Homes by-the-Sea Designer Show House and Holiday House Tours. Mr. Thees has been a trustee on the VNACJ Board of Trustees for 15 years, and served as chairman of VNA Health Group in 2011-2012 following the passing of Judith Stanley Coleman.

Tickets are $275 each. Sponsorships, underwriting, ticket packages, and specially priced reserve seating tickets are also available.
