Gun Recovered, One Charged in Dispute in Union Beach

Union Beach Gun Dispute

On Feb. 11 at approximately 11:00 am, patrols responded to a Union Beach residence for a dispute between two individuals. Reports indicated one of the parties involved was brandishing a firearm. Upon arrival, patrols met with the victim and determined the accused had fled the scene and was attempting to flee to Maryland.

After telephonically negotiating with the accused, they were convinced to return to the residence where UBPD patrols were able to intercept and take them into custody and recover the handgun without further incident. The accused was subsequently charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of an unregistered firearm and endangering the welfare of a child.

The 42 year old accused was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in Superior Court. Officers involved in preventing a catastrophic incident include: Sgt. Frank Taddeo, Det. Joseph Friscia, Det. Joseph Russo, Ptl. Matthew Gajewski, Ptl. Michael Davis, Ptl. James O’toole and Chief of Police Michael J. Woodrow.
