Trinity Hall Girls Lacrosse Claims SCT Title

By Les Pierce

Mary Kate Allingham (#16) led the Monarchs with four goals.

The Trinity Hall girls’ lacrosse team won its first-ever Shore Conference Tournament championship via a 17-7 victory over perennial champs Rumson-Fair Haven, on May 17 at Monmouth University’s Hesse Field.

The victory broke RFH’s long-time stranglehold on the tourney; the Bulldogs took the field boasting eight consecutive championships.  The win also avenged an early season 10-7 loss to Rumson on the Monarchs’ home field.

Trinity scored the first three goals of the contest, then RFH answered with three to knot the tally. Trinity countered with a four -goal streak to hold a 7-3 halftime advantage.

RFH’s Rachel James netted the first goal of the second half, and it appeared her squad would rally. However, Trinity launched a pair of four-goal streaks in the second half to pull away.

Mount St. Mary University-bound senior Mary Kate Allingham led the victors with four goals and three assists. Other scoring leaders were Alex Popham (three goals, one assist), Peyton McGuire (three goals, one assist), Paige Nolan (three goals, one assist) and Charlotte Webber (two goals, one assist). Nolan menaced the Bulldogs with five ground balls and three forced turnovers.
