Both the Thompson boys’ and girls’ cross country teams finished their regular dual meet season with undefeated records. Actually, sweeping all the dual meets is a typical achievement for these programs over the years.

The Lions topped off their 2022 campaign by competing in the New Jersey Middle School Cross Country Championships on Oct. 29. The meet was held in Skillman and hosted by the Montgomery Upper Middle School.

The girls’ team captured the championship led by Kiera Fetter (11th), Victoria Velardi (15th) and Reese O’Reilly (16th).

The boys squad took second place, paced by Conrad Eskola (18th) and Miles Barrett (19th).

Three days earlier, on Oct. 26, both squads claimed championship crowns at the Shore Conference of Middle Schools All Star Meet conducted at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck.

The girls team dominated, placing all seven runners in the top 10 finishers, winning with a low score of 20 points. The closest competitors were Thorne Middle School (72) and William R. Satz School (82).

Coming across the line for Thompson were Madison McHugh (second), Keira Fetter (third), Amelia Pattwell (fourth), Victoria Velardi (fifth), Reese O’Reilly (sixth), Keira Whitaker (eighth), and Ashley Penn (ninth).

Posting a low score of 32 points, the boys team also earned a championship title. William R. Satz School (55) and Bayshore Middle School (85) also collected team medals.

Carrying Thompson colors in the boys race were Conrad Eskola (third), Miles Barrett (fourth), Lincoln Miller (eighth), Max Kemp (10th), Ryder Hartman (12th), Peter Trezza (16th) and Joseph Maiorana (23rd).
