Students Filmmakers Wing It at Garden State Film Festival

By Joanne Colella

Student filmmakers Emily McNeill and Kera McGovern

Colts Neck resident Emily McNeill and her friend Kera McGovern of Tinton Falls, both sophomores at Communications High School in Wall, were flying high at this year’s 15th Annual Garden State Film Festival in Atlantic City. The creative duo co-directed, edited, and produced a short film, entitled “Winging It,” that was selected and screened at the festival, held the weekend of March 30 through April 2. At the awards banquet held on the final evening, their film won in their category, “Home Grown Student Documentary Short – High School.”

“Winging It” is a three-minute film that profiles Bob Ross, who stores and flies his plane from Monmouth County Executive Airport, and includes personal insights from him along with aerial footage from his plane. The students staged each shot, chose the location, prepared the interview questions, and edited the film’s audio and video. Check out their award-winning film at https://vimeo.com/159942527.
