Speeding Driver Caught Lying About House Fire When Pulled Over

On Aug. 22 around 10:30 am, a driver was pulled over for going 43 mph in a 25 mph zone on Hollywood Avenue in West Long Branch. When the officer asked the woman why she was speeding, she told him that her house was on fire in Ocean Township.

The West Long Branch Police Officer then contacted the Ocean Township Police Department to see if the home was actually on fire. The Oakhurst Fire Department and officers from the Ocean Township Police Department went to the home and confirmed the structure was not on fire.

The driver was charged with creating a hazardous condition following a motor vehicle stop by the Ocean Township Police Department and received a speeding ticket from the West Long Branch Police Department.
