Shrewsbury Garden Club Welcomes Spring

The Shrewsbury Garden Club’s Mother’s Day plant sale

Spring has just arrived, but the Shrewsbury Garden Club (SGC) has already had a busy and productive winter. In January, the club welcomed Lisa Linney of Linney’s Simply Natural to talk about the process she uses in making her all-natural soaps and scrubs. In February, Lauren Covas of Chef Covas Catering cooked up a winter medley as part of her informative cooking demonstration at the historic Narrowgate Farm in Shrewsbury. And later in the month, the SGC held a “Planters and Basket Workshop” at Lynwyck Gardens in Freehold to prepare and choose flowers for the club’s annual Gardener’s Market, scheduled for Saturday, May 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial Gazebo Garden, across from Shrewsbury Borough Hall. The SGC will have hundreds of healthy and colorful perennials, flowering annuals, herbs, vegetables, plants, and floral arrangements for sale, just in time for Mother’s Day. This year, the club will also hold a Green Elephant sale, featuring gently used garden tools, books, and accessories. Make sure to arrive early for the best selection! Proceeds from the sale help the club care for and maintain garden spaces in and around Shrewsbury, including the Gazebo Garden, the Allen House Herb Garden, the planters at Borough Hall and the Monmouth County Library, the Shrewsbury Historical Society Building, and several other gardens of interest.

The SGC meets the third Tuesday of every month, September through June, for lectures, demonstrations, and community service projects. New members are always welcome.
