Shrewsbury Chorale Seeks Singers for New Season

John Balme Shrewsbury Chorale NJ

The Shrewsbury Chorale, one of Monmouth County’s premier choruses, has planned a trio of inspiring choral performances based on a “seasonal” theme for 2018-19 – and is seeking new members who love to sing.

Currently directed by Neil F. Brown and accompanied by John Balme, The Shrewsbury Chorale has delighted audiences throughout Monmouth County since 1957. The group sings a wide variety of music ranging from lighter popular fare to choral masterpieces.

Neil F. Brown Shrewsbury Chorale NJTheir concert season opens Sunday, Dec. 9 with Seasonal Celebration! The highlight of this program will be the Son of God Mass and Requiem Canticorum by contemporary British composer James Whitbourn. The two works are seamlessly intertwined into a single multi-movement piece featuring choir, organ, and soprano saxophone.

For spring 2019, Maestro Brown has planned Haydn’s magnificent oratorio, The Seasons, complete with soloists and orchestra. In June 2019, the group turns to a lighter musical style with The Seasonings, by Peter Schickele, more popularly known as PDQ Bach. Get ready for some laughs as the composer spoofs the serious and sometimes stuffy oratorio form in a light-hearted manner.
