Join Citizens for Informed Land Use (CILU) in this timely virtual presentation by members of the Holmdel Charter Study Commission when they explain the results of their recently released study. The commission, established following approval by Holmdel voters in the November 2021 election, was tasked with studying Holmdel’s current government, comparing it to other forms available under New Jersey law, and determining whether it could be improved and made more accountable to the people. Holmdel residents will have the opportunity to vote on these recommendations in a special election on Tuesday, July 26.

The new form of government recommended by the commission is similar to the existing Township Committee form with changes that will allow for more power to the voters. These improvements are: 1) The mayor will be elected directly by the voters, 2) It will give voters more power through the initiative and referendum process to introduce new ordinances or repeal ones they don’t like, and 3) It calls for non-partisan elections to remove outside interference from county level party bosses. This presentation will give people a clear understanding of these issues so they can be informed prior to voting on this important topic in July.

This Zoom presentation will take place on Monday, June 20 at 7:30 pm. It is free and open to the public. To register, contact Karen at karsyv356@gmail.com. The presentation will be livestreamed and recorded on CILU’s YouTube channel (search CILU Holmdel). For more information, contact Jenni at jenni@blumenthal.com or 732-264-8482.
