Saint John Vianney and Middletown North Softball Teams Come Together After Game

Something really special happened on Saturday, June 3 after the Saint John Vianney High School (SJVHS) graduation. The SJVHS softball team (27-1) was playing in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinal game against Middletown North, the SJV Lady Lancers were down 1-0, and the team was a little weary, having played three games in a row over the previous three days. The Lancers received a boost when former SJVHS pitcher Jenn Retzer arrived mid-game to support the team. They rallied for a hard-fought 3-2 victory and advanced to the SCT finals.

Jenn, who is a former Lancers standout, a 2011 alumna of the SJVHS program, and a star at the University of Pennsylvania, suffered a critical injury in a skiing accident this past February that left the 23-year-old in a coma for several weeks. She is a native of Middletown.

There was an extraordinary show of sportsmanship and solidarity post-game on June 3, with Middletown North and SJVHS united in support for Jennโ€™s continued recovery.
