Veteran Saint John Vianney field hockey goalie Taylor Schlein has reached the 200-career saves milestone. The senior achieved the feat in a home game against Freehold Township on Sept. 24.
Her best outing of 2022 was an 18-save performance that led to a 2-0 shutout win over Manasquan on Sept. 13. In 2021, she stopped 26 shots in a game against Point Pleasant Boro. Schlein also hit the single season 100-save benchmark in 2021.
“Taylor is the kind of goalkeeper that you can build your team around,” SJV Head Coach Amanda Westerweller said. “She is dedicated, passionate about field hockey, kind and a true leader both on and off the field. Even though this is only her third year playing the position, I have never seen someone embrace the job and improve as quickly as she has. Her movement from post to post, decision making and skill make her a brick wall back there. We could not be more proud of her, not only in her high school achievements, but as she moves to play at the collegiate level.”
Schlein will continue her academic and athletic career at Dickinson College.
