Rumson Man Charged After Holding ‘Coronavirus Party’ Saturday Night

A Rumson man has been charged after hosting a concert outside his home Saturday night.

John Maldjian, 54, was charged today by the Rumson Police Department with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and two separate charges related to violating the emergency orders.

On the evening on April 3, police were dispatched to the Rumson residence after a large group of people was reported to be gathering outside the home. Police said approximately 30 people were set up in lawn chairs outside watching two men, including homeowner Maldjian, play the guitar. The concert was also live streamed on Facebook.

Police arrived on scene and told the people to disperse. They said the crowd remained on the lawn until an officer approached Maldjian and told him to stop playing music.

Police said the crowd became unruly and shouted profanities at officers, some even yelling, “Welcome to Nazi Germany.”

Charges against members of the crowd will be announced as that information becomes public.
