Amid all the chaos and confusion plaguing our society right now, one local library is launching a contest to showcase the beauty of its town.

“As Red Bank, along with the rest of the country and the world, copes with the changes required by this global pandemic, lives are affected in many ways,” the Red Bank Library said on its website. “But our vital community is strong and courageous, and always beautiful.”

“Always Beautiful,” the Red Bank-based photography contest, will run through July 15. Participants are invited to submit photos taken within the borough and in adjoining areas showing Red Bank. Photographers need not be residents of Red Bank.

All photos must be emailed to to be considered.

Judges will be from the library staff and board. Chosen community members will also help judge the submissions.

Six prizes will be awarded. Winners will be selected in five categories with one overall winner.

Categories include:

  • Places of Red Bank (can be buildings, parks, streets, etc.)
  • People of Red Bank (show how people are coping with the circumstances)
  • Youth Winner (under 16 years of age)
  • People’s Choice (voted on by the public)
  • Video (no more the five minutes, all ages compete)

Honorable mentions will be awarded by the judges at their discretion.

Winners of the “Always Beautiful” contest will be announced by Sept. 1. Winners will be honored at a library reception, and their photos will be displayed online at for one year.
