Red Bank Catholic Senior Wins First Place at Shakespeare Competition

RBC senior Samantha Siriani and her Honors Theater Arts teacher, Mrs. Mary King

Red Bank Catholic (RBC) senior Samantha Siriani of Middletown took first place last month in the county level of the National Shakespeare Competition, sponsored by the English Speaking Union.  In this program, high school students nationwide read, analyze, perform, and recite Shakespearean monologues and sonnets. The competition, held at Brookdale Community College’s Performing Arts Center, was the second of three qualifying stages for the national title.  Sam was first selected from a competition held in school to represent Red Bank Catholic at the March 4 Monmouth County competition.

As the Monmouth County winner, she receives an all-expense-paid trip to travel to New York City to compete at the National Competition, scheduled for April 29- May 2. She and the other students will perform their monologues and sonnets before a distinguished panel of judges and their fellow contestants from across the country. Based upon their performances, seven to ten students advance to the final round. Finalists, performing their selections along with a cold reading of a monologue, will compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to attend a summer drama program.
