RBR Boys’ Tennis Team ‘Set High Standards for Themselves’
By Shanna O’Mara

The Red Bank Regional boys’ tennis team surged to a 11-8 record last year and return experienced players ready to take the program even further.
The Bucs finished 10-6 in the Shore Conference last spring. They ranked third in the B North Division, falling short only to Freehold Borough and Manasquan. Though the ’22 team lacked veteran leadership, they were not short on talent and will rely on players who saw court time last spring to step up this season. Juniors Chris Cashman and Brady O’Connor return after a full year as 1st and 2nd singles.
“After being a young team last year, we expect these two to take the upperclassman leap,” Assistant Coach Christopher Desiere said. “They have put in lots of offseason work and have set high standards for themselves.”
Cashman went 10-9 and O’Connor 9-9 with tight matches against Colts Neck and Wall Township. Desiere said another rivalry brewing is with Rumson-Fair Haven because of the schools’ proximity to each other. These teams will be on the Bucs’ radar in the coming months as they also look inward to make improvements.
“We expect [our players] just to improve from the first day of the season to the last,” Desiere said. “We can only control our own growth. We hope to improve on last season’s record and advance further in states, but we have to take care of the day-to-day routine first.”
