Polish Falcons of America Lend Support to “Crochet and Knit for a Cause”

“Come Together: Make A Difference” is a program of the Polish Falcons of America (PFA), created to inspire members to gather family and friends to make a difference in their community by organizing or participating in projects such as clothing drives, food drives, and fundraising for charity.

Pat Koziol of Holmdel is currently president of one of the local groups in New Jersey and submitted an application for funding to support the “Crochet and Knit for a Cause” group that meets bi-monthly at the Hazlet Library. “The group continues to grow in membership and we are constantly in need of yarn for our ongoing projects,” Ms. Koziol says. “We have donated close to 2,000 hats and more than 200 baby blankets to Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) alone.” The group has also donated to Riverview Hospice, the United Way of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, New Jersey Veterans, and 180 Turning Lives Around.

The funding the group received from the Falcons will be used to purchase yarn for their newest project: cough pillow covers, which patients recovering primarily from cardiac or abdominal surgeries will receive at MMC. The PFA also provided t-shirts to the groups, which were distributed by Ms. Laura Siemientkowski, Director of Volunteer Services, MMC, at a recent meeting.

The PFA is one of the nation’s leading Polish-American organizations, with more than 20,000 members nationwide. Founded in Chicago in 1887, the organization’s headquarters were moved to Pittsburgh in 1912, where it remains today. The organization supports a wide range of programs for its members, including various sports activities and educational programs in addition to charitable and social events. In New Jersey, the local groups (called Nests) meet in Union and Somerset Counties.

The “Crochet and Knit for a Cause” group meets at the Hazlet Public Library. For additional information and meeting dates, call Diana Zambrano, branch manager, at (732) 264-7164.
