One Fatality in Marlboro Telephone Pole Accident

At approximately 1 pm today, the Marlboro Police Department reported downed wires and telephone poles on Route 9 in Marlboro due to a fatal motor vehicle accident.

Sources say the driver of a Ford Edge traveling southbound on Route 9 had struck a telephone pole, causing a collision with U-Haul truck that was parked in the U-Haul parking lot at 415 Route 9 South. The impact on the pole ultimately caused it to fall, subsequently toppling atop the Ford Edge, killing the driver.

The driver of the Ford Edge, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The toppling of the pole caused nearby lines and poles to fall and lean over the highway, leaving utility wires strung across both sides of Route 9.Β  Traffic in the area built up for the remainder of the day as that portion of the highway was closed for assessment and repairs. Reports say wires ultimately landed on four additional cars, however no injuries were reported from those vehicles.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Patrolman David Stattle at 732-536-0100, ext. 1116 or email Dstattle@marlboropd.org.
