Old-Fashioned Drive-In Movie Experience Coming to Atlantic Highlands

By Julia Mortimer

Now’s the time to fulfill that dream of being in a classic 60s movie! A free, old-fashioned drive-in movie theater is coming to Atlantic Highlands. Saturday nights will be spent at the Marina watching a film.

Four nights have already been planned starting June 27, the Borough of Atlantic Highlands announced. This greatly anticipated drive-in theater will be open on Saturday nights — June 27, July 25, Aug. 29 and Sept. 19. Reservations can be made online, and the location can accommodate 48 cars. Organized by the Atlantic Highlands Recreation Committee, the theater will have an 8 pm and 10 pm showing.

Not only will this act as a wonderful form of entertainment for residents, but the theater also serves to support local eateries and other retail businesses.

The Atlantic Highlands Recreation Committee is encouraging businesses to create meal specials for drive-in participants. The borough stated on its Facebook page, “For example, there might be a ‘family’ meal special deal; a snack bucket; a ‘cuppa-supper,’ such as individually portioned soups or stews or finger foods designed for easy eating while movie-watching.”

Movie options include classics titles such as “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Poltergeist” and “Grease,” among many other reminiscent films.

Businesses that would like to participate in the event are asked to submit a description of their food offering with pricing to jcrowley@ahnj.com. These will subsequently be included in the online promotions of the events.

For more information, email Councilman Jon Crowley at jcrowley@ahnj.com and include your phone number for quick response.
