Officer Injured in Stolen Car Chase, Suspect Fled

The Marlboro Police Department is currently searching for a suspect involved in a stolen car chase that injured one township officer. The driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot after colliding with one of the responding patrol cars in the area of Walnut Drive and Pleasant Valley Road.

At approximately 2 am Friday, officers responded to a call of suspicious activity in front of a residence in the Morganville section of Marlboro, according to police. A patrolman on duty in the area of the reported activity witnessed a vehicle speeding in the direction of Reids Hill Road. The stolen vehicle continued on Beacon Hill Road, ultimately crashing into responding Marlboro Police Officer Michael Verbeke.

Verbeke was traveling on Beacon Hill Road in response to the 911 call and was injured when the suspect’s car collided with his while making a K-turn.

Verbeke sustained injury to his wrists due to his airbag deployment from the crash. He was taken to Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, and later released according to police.

The stolen vehicle is described as a black Audi, reported stolen in 2019 in Mendham. Anyone with information regarding the incident or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call Marlboro Police Department at 732-536-0100.
