Ocean County Teen Hospitalized After Being Impaled by Javelin

An Ocean County teenager was impaled by a javelin during a track and field practice on Tuesday, Toms River police said.

The incident occurred around 5:40 pm on a field outside Donovan Catholic High School on Hooper Avenue in Toms River.

“Upon arrival, officers were directed to an open field near the track and field training area,” Jillian Messina, spokeswoman for the Toms River Police Department, told NJ Advance Media. On the field, police found the injured 16-year-old.

The teen had a javelin impaled in his right leg, according to authorities.

Messina said the javelin was impacted several inches into his thigh; however, there was no visible bleeding. The victim was conscious and able to speak with the first responders.

Toms River firefighters cut the javelin to allow for safer transport to the hospital.

The teen was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center to treat his injuries.
