Nordstrom of Freehold Raceway Mall to Permanently Close

Nordstrom will be closing 16 of its locations across the U.S., including the store in the Freehold Raceway Mall, corporate officials announced Tuesday.

According to Freehold store employees, they were notified by corporate today that Nordstrom would not be reopening due to the COVID-19 crisis. Heartbroken staff have created a change.org petition in an effort to save the store.

Nordstrom joined Macy’s and Lord & Taylor in the mall and has served as a popular, designer anchor store since 1992, two years after the mall was built. Nordstrom in a three-floor, full-line retailer with departments in footwear, clothing, fragrances and much more.

The closures will represent approximately 14 percent of the entire fleet of full-line, multi-floor department stores, not including their discount and boutique stores including Nordstrom Rack. Nordstrom officials said in a press statement that the closings will save $150 million for the company.

According to Business Insider, analysts believe that trimming the fleet of stores will allow for more efficient management.

“The closings should yield more efficient inventory management, and provide more consistency in-store experiences,” said business analyst Olive Chen.
