The Freehold Township Police arrested Robert T. Ross III, 37, of Freehold Township, and seized 14 destructive type devises commonly used in fireworks.

On Thursday, June 20, as a result of a two-day investigation, detectives from the Freehold Township Police and with the assistance from agents of the United States Department of Justice-Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) responded to and met Ross outside his residence where he turned over the devices without incident.

Preliminary investigation indicates Ross was manufacturing these devices inside his residence where his wife and children reside and then offering these devices for sale online. A search of Ross’ residence, with the assistance of a K-9 from the ATF, turned up no other destructive devices but detectives did locate an unsecured air rifle. Members of the Freehold Township Police had secured the area and after the search of the residence and found there was no threat to the community.

Ross was charged with possession of a destructive device, endangering the welfare of children, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to possess a weapon. He was lodged in the Monmouth County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.
