Newcomers and Neighbors Club Celebrates The Holidays

On Nov. 11, the Newcomers and Neighbors Club of Colts Neck, Holmdel and surrounding areas held a general meeting at the Colts Neck Community Church. The members enjoyed a social hour with refreshments, coffee and tea followed by a business meeting. Activity leaders gave updates on their plans for November and December, and important community issues were discussed.

The featured speaker for the day was Mary Pahira, owner of the Colts Neck General Store. The 172-year-old building has an intriguing story. From the secret trap door that hid the wine during prohibition, the tree trunks holding up the building, the dirt floors in the basement and the open beams in the ceiling, it is a remarkable piece of history.

On Dec. 2, the club held the annual holiday luncheon at the Molly pitcher Inn in Red Bank. Members enjoyed a lovely four course lunch and professional comedy entertainment.

The next meeting of the club will be held Thursday, Jan. 13 at 9:30 am at the Colts Neck Community Church. New and long-time residents are welcome to attend as guests.

For information on the club or to join, call 908-309-1602 or 908-510-3255.
