National Weather Service Confirms Tornado Touched Down in Lincroft

Yesterday morning, a storm struck much of New Jersey and especially targeted the Monmouth County area. Lincroft, in particular, was hit hard by high-power winds and heavy rainfall.

It has been confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS) that it was, indeed, a tornado that touched down in Lincroft.

The tornado ran through the Brookdale campus just before 10 am. It continued on a 1.2-mile path through Phalanx Road and the Swimming River Reservoir.

With maximum speeds of 80 miles an hour, the NWS was able to investigate the storm and confirm that it was a tornado.

One Lincroft home had a 70-foot tree through fall through the house in the wake of the tornado, as reported by the resident and neighbors.

This was the second storm this month to rip through Monmouth County. In early August, Tropical Storm Isaias made landfall in New Jersey, leaving behind a path of destruction, downed trees and power lines as it moved north. Tens of thousands of state residents were without power for days, including many in Monmouth County.
