MTPD’s Senior Youth Week Academy

Senior Youth Week Academy middletown nj

The Middletown Township Police Department hosted its inaugural Senior Youth Week Academy for the 12/13 year-old age group. Thirty adolescents participated in this interactive academy that enabled them to get a more in-depth look at what it’s like to be a police officer. Each morning, they participated in physical fitness training and military etiquette followed by a “formation run” around the Fire Academy campus. After exercising, they received a lineup style briefing similar to how officers start their shift. They also received morning instruction to help build a foundation for their afternoon scenario-based practicals. The entire week was based on a former case that the MTPD solved and the goal was to teach the importance of proper note taking and working together to solve a crime.

Committeewoman Pat Snell, Mayor Tony Perry and Police Chief Craig Weber handed out challenge coins to graduates to commemorate the first senior police academy class.

After all their hard work and a small drill display for their family and friends, the recruits graduated at the Student Life Center at Brookdale Community College. Each graduate received a certificate and a Youth Week Challenge Coin as a keepsake to remember their dedication and everything they learned.
