Monmouth County’s Kristina Henderson Named Mrs. New Jersey American

By Lori Draz

Congratulations to hometown heroine Kristina Henderson, originally of Colts Neck, who was named the 2020 Mrs. New Jersey American in the Mrs. America Pageant held earlier this year at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

This vivacious 29-year-old is married to Barton Henderson, originally of Red Bank, and together the couple runs Henderson Promos in Red Bank. The company produces thousands of promotional and novelty items and printed apparel for companies, nonprofits and organizations around country.

If chosen as Mrs. America, she will travel the country promoting her platform of combatting addiction, empowering women in business and fighting hunger. It’s a big platform with a big schedule, but Henderson is ready.

The traveling part should be a breeze for this Mrs. New Jersey American. In her teen years, Kristina wanted to become a pilot and became a flight attendant at the age of 19, shortly after graduating from Colts Neck High School. She got her associates degree from Brookdale Community College before earning her bachelor’s degree from Boston University. She went on to meet and marry her husband, Barton, and the two have lived in many places including Hawaii, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.

In each of the locations, Kristina learned more and worked to improve the funding of numerous nonprofits. She is currently working closely with Fulfill, formerly called the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, as well as Tigger House Foundation, an organization dedicated to combatting drug addiction. She is also the co-founder of “The Giving Back Forum,” an event that brings together more than 65 nonprofits so members can learn from one another, share resources and promote awareness for their causes.

Henderson’s excitement spills over when she talks about her plans for the future, which she hopes includes grabbing the national title, when the rescheduled pageant takes place in Las Vegas (the date has yet to be determined). If she wins Mrs. American, she will move on to compete in the Mrs. World Pageant in Sri Lanka.

“I am honored to represent the great state of New Jersey, and I hope to use my reign, empowering other women to start their own businesses and take their existing companies to the next level,” she said. “I want young women to know their worth and shoot for the stars. Don’t be afraid to be an entrepreneur and start your own business. Look for other accomplished women in business to inspire you and provide mentorships. Women really need to embrace each other’s triumphs and build a network of support with each other because when one of us succeeds, we all succeed.”

Kristina also serves on the Girl Scouts of America’s Phenomenal Women Under 40 Committee, celebrating women leaders in the community.

She and Barton share their home with their two dogs, Gatsby and Kona, who love the Jersey Shore too. If you would like to book Kristina Henderson for appearances and speaking engagements, email karlab@thinkmedianj.com or call 732-996-9789.
