Hazlet Township announced yesterday that it will not be reopening its Hazlet Pool Club and Hazlet recreation summer camps program this 2020 season.

Hazlet Township representatives stated in a letter, “While we are saddened by the cancelations, we want you to know we will take this opportunity to explore plans for improvements to both the swim club and the Cullen Center that will benefit Hazlet residents of all ages. Improvements will include a focus on public safety.”

For those who have purchased passes, refunds will be available and processed in the near future.

Many long-time attendees of the beloved community pool club expressed their disappointment. One resident commented, “Hazlet isn’t summer without the pool club being open!”

Others were concerned with the childcare options this summer if the Hazlet recreation camps were not in service. One said, “That was my only affordable option, and now I have to consider quitting my job without another option.”

Holmdel Swim Club and Middletown Sports Complex, two other local pool clubs, have yet to confirm a reopen date because they are waiting on Gov. Phil Murphy to give the green light.

“The earliest possible opening date of the swim club is now June 20,” the Holmdel Swim Club stated. “Since this is such a constantly changing situation, that date is a best case scenario and should not be viewed as a guarantee of opening.”

Officials said the Middletown Sports Complex will update pricing and swim club information once the governor has issued any updated regulations and restrictions.
