Monmouth County Parks System Plans Outdoor Fun This January

By Lori Draz

Just because it January doesn’t mean you can’t have some outdoor fun! The Monmouth County Parks System has some great activities that will fill your heart with sunshine and fill your lungs with fresh air!

On Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 10 to 11:30 am, a Wondrous Winter Walk will take place at Thompson Park in Lincroft. Meet in the Old Orchard parking lot.

On Saturday, Jan. 22 at 3 pm, meet at Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold for “Nature on the Move – Winter Days: Adaptations – How Do Animals Stay Warm in the Winter?” During this fascinating free program, attendees will join a Park System Naturalist for a 45- to 60-minute hands-on interactive program as they sip hot cocoa, play games and see how nature survives the colder weather.

On Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 10 to 11:30 am, head to the Rocky Point parking lot of Hartshorne Woods Park and tag along with a Park System Naturalist to explore nature in the wintertime. This event is open to all ages. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Sturdy footwear is recommended.

On Sunday, Jan. 30 from 1 to 4 pm, attend the free Seashore Open House at the Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park Activity Center in Long Branch. Enjoy seashore fun at this annual Open House including hands-on activities that will entertain and educate you and your family about the shore and the sea. Speak with a Park System Naturalist about your own shell collection or the aquatic animals on display. You can even create a beach keepsake to take with you.
