Middletown High School South wrestlers Jack Zaleski and David Hussey both claimed medals at the NJSIAA State Championships held in Atlantic City. It marks the first time since 1993 that the Eagles have had multiple state medal winners in the same season.
Zaleski picked up a third-place bronze; it was the fourth state medal of his career. In the program’s history, only he and Glenn Pritzlaff (1991-1994) have netted four state medals.
The 126-pound grappler won his third Region championship this year via a 10-3 decision over District 17 champion Jake Zaltsman of Saint John Vianney. That match followed two first period pins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
The Rutgers-bound senior’s resume also boasts three District championships. He set the South career wins record at 133 after racking up 44 victories this year.
David Hussey picked up an eighth-place medal wrestling at 157. It was his fourth appearance at the NJSIAA State Championships.
The senior has earned four Region medals, including a championship in 2022. He claimed his third District title this season by defeating Middletown North’s Matthew Castelli via a 10-3 decision in the final.
Hussey completed his tenure at South with 105 career wins which places him fifth on the Middletown South All-Time wins list. He will continue academic and athletic pursuits at Duke University.
