Six Middletown High School South wrestlers – Jack Zaleski, Robert Generelli, David Hussey, Jack Reiter, Jack Willi and Dante Miranda – claimed individual titles at the annual Walter Woods Holiday Classic Tournament.

Zaleski clinched the 126-pound championship with a 17-1 technical fall over Jackson Memorial’s Lucas Lipari. Wrestling at 138 pounds, Generelli won the bracket final via an 11-3 major decision over Sal Palmeri of Holy Spirit.

The 144-pound competition presented an unusual scenario. South entered two wrestlers and both fought their way through the brackets to reach the final. Hussey then outpointed teammate Jason DeSanctis 10-1 in the showdown to grasp the gold medal.

Reiter claimed the 175-pound title with a 6-3 decision over Freehold Township’s Aidan Harrington. The 190-pound final proved to be a close match between South’s Willi and Mike Rauch of Jackson Memorial. The Eagle senior prevailed via a 7-5 decision.

Miranda engineered one of the shortest bouts of the day when he pinned Point Pleasant Borough’s Declan Pratt at just 15 seconds into the heavyweight class semifinal. He then secured the title by pinning Philip Docteur of Holy Spirit in the final at 1:03.

Earning silver medals were Jason DeSanctis (144), Alex Quintano (150) and Nick Holland (165).  Kaden King (120), Jack Nelson (157) and Aiden Caruso (215) brought home bronze.

Middletown South captured the team championship over a field of 11 squads with 252 points. The closest competitors were Point Pleasant Borough (139.5) and Holy Spirit (134.5).
