Middletown South Field Hockey Goalie Leila Black Achieves Milestone
By Les Pierce

Middletown South goalie Leila Black
Middletown South goalkeeper Leila Black has reached the 100-career save milestone. The senior hit the mark in a road game against Howell.
Black is considered the anchor of a defense that has notched seven shutouts among the 10 wins posted thus far this season. Her most outstanding performance of 2022 came via a clash with Point Pleasant Boro in which she rejected 15 shots.
“Leila has proven to be a strong-willed captain who motivates her team and enters every practice and every game with a positive attitude,” seventh-year Head Coach Jordan Hickman said. “She has become a staple in the goal and makes big saves when it matters most. Leila is a natural leader both on and off of the field. As a new field hockey player her freshman year, she selflessly stepped into the goalie role and by her sophomore season, she was starting varsity. Her work ethic is unmatched, and she will be truly missed at the end of this season.”
