Middletown South Boys’ 9U Basketball Team Wins Mid-Monmouth League Championship

The Middletown South boys’ 9U basketball team has captured the Mid-Monmouth League championship with 31-18 victory over Rumson in the tournament final at Monroe Sports Center on Sunday, March 12. Middletown brought a balanced offense to the game, with scoring leaders Luke Wafle and Michael Frandsen each putting up seven points. Dylan Passo and Justin Fuerbacher both scored six. Fuerbacher led the squad in rebounds.

Coach Steve Fuerbacher credited a tenacious defense, particularly by Justin Reale and Lou D’Alessio coming off the bench, with both recording multiple steals. Rumson took the court with a perfect 14-0 record and averaged 44 points per game, but were held to just 18 points here.

Middletown South reached the final via a 32-18 victory over Marlboro in the semifinal. Marlboro came out fast and started the game with an 8-2 advantage. South established a 14-12 lead by the break and pulled away in the second half, limiting Marlboro to just six more points. Scoring leaders were Michael Frandsen (12), Justin Fuerbacher (10), and Dylan Passo (8).

Middletown South was guided by manager Joe Passo, coach Steve Fuerbacher, and coach Mark Russo. The squad completed the season with a perfect 16-0 record.
