Middletown Police Lieutenant Paul Bailey confirmed on Sunday night to The Journal that the body of a missing Middletown resident was, in fact, recovered from Shadow Lake late last week.

Mary Silengo, 62, who resided in Shadow Lake Village on Nut Swamp Road, was reported missing on Sept. 22.

On Oct. 1 at approximately 1:30 pm, Middletown Police responded to a report of a body floating in the water at Shadow Lake. Upon arrival, officers spoke with two witnesses who reported that they were fishing on the lake when they observed a body floating near the water’s edge on the south side.

At the time, the identification of the deceased was still undetermined, pending the conclusion of the Medical Examiner’s investigation.

Silengo was said to have “spent her life surrounded by the company of her loving and supportive family and will be dearly missed by them all,” according to an obituary on Legacy.com. It was stated that Silengo was a breast cancer survivor, and her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Breast Cancer Alliance, 48 Maple Ave., Greenwich, Connecticut, 06830 or online at breastcanceralliance.org.
