On Friday, January 26, sixth graders from Markham Place School in Little Silver were treated to an afternoon of presentations and activities to promote Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy and Self Control (CARES).
Members of the community who have made a positive impact visited the school and inspired kids to give back. This year, representatives from Best Buddies, Backpack Crew, Lt. Dennis W Zilinski the 2nd Memorial Fund, HabCore and Holiday Express shared their time, enthusiasm and knowledge for the ninth annual Markham CARES Day.
Students were actively engaged in activities such as writing letters to military personnel, crafting encouraging messages to fellow classmates, making scarves for those in need, roleplaying how to manage a household and packing up shipments of donated items earmarked for troops stationed overseas.
