Manasquan Recreation Programs Suspended After Employees Test Positive for COVID-19

Recreation programs in Manasquan have been suspended for a week due to reported COVID-19 cases in the facilities. A junior guards counselor and recreation counselor are among several employees who tested positive for COVID-19.

Mike Mangan, recreation chair and councilman in Manasquan Beach, recently addressed the issue and worked to assure parents.

Manasquan beaches will remain open, while recreation programs will be suspended. If the health department can’t find answers, then the programs will be canceled, Mangan said.

“It is our commitment to keep everyone safe, but we also want to make sure that we’re keeping these programs going if at all possible,” he said.

The Manasquan Beach and Recreation Department will continue taking measures to ensure the safety of employees and the public, the Borough of Manasquan said in a statement.

Mangan explained, “I know any parent of any child of any age knows that these young kids need to get out and about and be with their friends, but we can’t do that at the risk of public safety.”
