Man Struck and Killed by Train Near Hazlet

Early today around 4:45 am, a man was struck and killed by a North Jersey Coast Line train.

According to the North Jersey Coast Line Twitter account, rail service was suspended in both directions due to a pedestrian fatality near Hazlet. The train left Long Branch at 4:26 am and was scheduled to arrive at New York Penn Station at 5:58 am. It was disrupted when the man was struck near the Hazlet train station.

The identification of the man has yet been released.

It is unknown why the man was on the tracks. The investigation is being carried out by NJ Transit police. There were approximately 20 passengers and crew members on the train. No injuries were reported.

As of 9 am, all service has resumed in both directions. Rail tickets and passes were being cross-honored by NJ Transit and private carrier buses during the time of disruption.
