Man Breaks into Home via Bathroom Window, Arrested by Police

On September 5, 2019 at approximately 12:02 am, Corporal Stan Eskridge was dispatched to Brighton Avenue for a Burglary which just occurred to the residence. Corporal Eskridge met with resident upon arrival. Sergeant Hector Umana arrived on scene and translated Portuguese to English for him. The victim said a male possibly Brazilian or Portuguese, wearing a blue Barcelona soccer jersey with โ€œNeymarโ€ written on the back of the jersey, broke into his residence. He further described the accused as approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall, light skinned, short black hair with unshaven facial hair, and stated the accused left on a bicycle on Brighton Avenue. Corporal Eskridge remained on scene to obtain additional information.

Corporal Kijung Kim responded to the area and began to canvas the area for anyone matching the description of the possible accused. Corporal Kim observed a subject riding a bicycle eastbound on Brighton Avenue wearing a โ€œNeymar Jrโ€ soccer jersey. The subject turned to Corporal Kim at which time, Corporal Kim was able to see it was a male with short dark hair, unshaven wearing a blue jersey. Corporal Kim conducted an interview with the subject later identified as Marcos Cota-Caetano. At this time a Show Up Identification Procedure was completed, and the victim identified Marcos Cota-Caetano as the person who entered his house.

The Long Branch Detective Bureau was contacted, and Forensic Detective Robert Poss arrived at the residence to process the scene. Detective Poss photographed the scene which depicted the accused entered the residence through the east side of the first-floor window. The accused used a 5-gallon bucket to stand up to the elevated window to the bathroom. The accused left a partial boot print in the dirt next to the bucket which was photographed. The accused then entered the master bedroom and took change from an empty water jug and aluminum can of coins.

Marco Cota-Caetano was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for booking and processing. Marco Cota-Caetano was charged with Burglary to Structure and Theft of Property. Cota-Caetano was interviewed by Detective Michael Verdadeiro and Detective Joseph Spitale. Cota-Caetano gave a confession to Detective Verdadeiro in Portuguese that he had entered the residence.
