Between October 2022 and March 2023, Marshalls Home Goods had experienced a rash of shoplifting incidents by an unknown male subject. After a lengthy investigation by Holmdel Detective Eric Hernando, a possible suspect was identified. On March 22, Detective Hernando and Detective Andrew Kret were able to arrest a 30-year-old Patterson resident after conducting surveillance at a possible location where he was thought to be staying.
The subject was charged with nine counts of shoplifting and lodged in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.
Retail theft continues to be on the rise in New Jersey, authorities said. Police ask anyone who witnesses suspicious persons or behavior while shopping to report them.
