At approximately 7:30 pm Saturday, two people were killed in a two-car accident on the Garden State Parkway, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Police said a pick-up truck veered off the highway in Tinton Falls and onto a nearby road, where it collided with the victims’ car.
The pick-up truck left the northbound lanes of the parkway around mile marker 103, then traveled over the grass until it reached Asbury Avenue, where it collided with the car.
The GMC Canyon pick-up truck was driven by a 33-year-old Toms River man. The victims, two out-of-state residents, a 40-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, were operating a Toyota Corolla.
The occupants of the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he consented to a blood draw and turned over his cell phone to investigators.
No charges have been filed at this time pending the results of that blood test, according to reports.
This incident remains under investigation by the multi-jurisdictional Monmouth County Serious Crash Analysis Response Team.
