Local Places to Indulge in Tasty Fall Favorites

By Julia Mortimer

We are deep into the season of apple cider and pumpkin-flavored everything. Autumn is a perfect time to gather with friends and family, indulging in all things delicious and cozy. So where are the best places to enjoy some seasonal treats? This is a list of spots to hit to immerse yourself in the decadence.

Dearborn Market
This famous farmers market offers fresh, seasonal produce, including Jersey corn, tomatoes and blueberries; farm fresh eggs from Puglisi Farm in Howell; yellow and green squash; musk melons and more. They also offer seasonal gift baskets, full of fruits, cheeses and specialty products. Dear Market is located at 2170 Route 35 in Holmdel.

The French Market
The French Market allows its high-quality ingredients to speak for themselves on the plate. A specialty offered now is the delicious cranberry walnut bread topped with fresh burrata and fig jam. The French Market is located at 114 East River Road in Rumson.

Drew’s Bayshore Bistro
The Keyport favorite, known to have the best Cajun-American cuisine in the area, offers some lovely fall specials for the season. One is the entrée, Oktoberfest Pork Schnitzel, an ode to German’s Oktoberfest and seared New Jersey scallops with a Jersey corn risotto, micro greens and a citrus vinaigrette. Drew’s Bayshore Bistro is located at 25 Church St. in Keyport.

Holmdel Bagel Market
The Holmdel Bagel Market, located next to Rook in the Holmdel Towne Plaza, offers pumpkin cream cheese for all those wanting to start their morning right. Slap it on any bagel, but I would suggest a cinnamon raisin or French toast bagel. Holmdel Bagel Market is located at 2101 Route 35 in Holmdel.

Semolina Restaurant
Everything on the quaint downtown Red Bank restaurants’ menus sounds delicious. In my quest to find fall-themed dishes, I came across a Honeynut squash soup with brown butter croutons, which sounds like a nice, warm hug on a crisp day. Semolina Restaurant is located at 13 White St. in Red Bank.

Good Karma Cafe
This go-to spot for vegan options also offers some delicious baked goods. They have a pecan shortbread bread square, which is described as having a buttery shortbread bottom topped with caramel and crunchy pecans, finished with a maple-infused topping. It doesn’t end there; they also have a gluten-free pumpkin chocolate cake. Good Karma Cafe is located at 17 East Front St. in Red Bank.

Kane Brewing Company
You can’t celebrate Oktoberfest without a collection of German-style beers, and that’s why Kane is offering Bierhalle, a lager! The popular brewery offers delivery and pick-up. Kane Brewing Company is located at 1750 Bloomsbury Ave. in Ocean Township.

Good Vibe Nutrition
The new shake spot in downtown Red Bank is offering a cinnamon roll shake! Not only do they offer seasonal options, but they have other delicious sounding flavors to curb your sweets craving! Good Vibe Nutrition is located at 4B West Front St. in Red Bank.

Apple Street Kitchen
Farm-to-table restaurant Apple Street Kitchen has an extensive menu with fresh, delicious ingredients. For the fall season, they have the omelette d’jour which is stuffed with butternut squash, garden swiss chard and feta cheese. For more of a brunch option, they have a garden fig toast, which is homemade pumpkin bread topped with honey-ricotta and a vincotto balsamic. Apple Street Kitchen is located at 33 Apple St. in Tinton Falls.

Nicholas Creamery
With two locations, the popular ice cream spot never fails to come out with inventive seasonal flavors. For fall, they have partnered with Delicious Orchards to create apple cider-flavored ice cream! Nicholas Creamery is located at 84 First Ave. in Atlantic Highlands and 586 River Rd. in Fair Haven.
