Local Author Meet & Greet this Friday in Fair Haven

By Lori Draz

Local author and friend to historic sites everywhere Muriel J. Smith will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Feb. 21 meeting of the Root Beer and Checkers Club at the Nauvoo Grill in Fair Haven.

Starting at noon, she will be signing copies and speaking about her recently released book, “Hidden History of Monmouth County,” co-authored by Rick Geffken.

Smith is a delightful and knowledgeable speaker. She is a former newspaper editor and award-winning news, feature, sports and investigative reporting journalist. She will bring to life some of the Monmouth County people, places and events that are featured in the book.

Published by Arcadia Press, this is Smith’s fourth book and her first on local history. Others include “NJ Alliance for Action: 25 Years of Excellence,” “The Reporter and the Draft,” and “I Know How to Grieve, I Want to Learn How to Laugh,” a self-help book written after the death of her husband in 2006.

Smith is a columnist for the Atlantic Highlands Herald and a member of the Monmouth County Historical Commission.

Copies of her book will be available for signing and sale.
