In the spirit of giving thanks, the owners of Livoti’s Old World Market donated a bounty of holiday food to local veterans – both active and retired – with delivery assistance from members of local fire departments.

Livoti’s, which has a store in Middletown and two others in Marlboro and Aberdeen, donated everything needed for a complete Thanksgiving dinner to almost 100 veterans, delivered a week before the Nov. 22 holiday. The project was created “to thank military families for their undivided hard work, dedication and service to our country,” said John Livoti Sr., owner of Livoti’s Old World Market.

Each of Livoti’s “Vetsgiving” meals included a large frozen turkey, potatoes, stuffing, yams, gravy, cranberry sauce, and canned vegetables.

“As a local, family-owned business, we believe that some of the greatest memories are made when loved ones gather around the dinner table,” Livoti said. “We wanted the veterans to enjoy those moments with their loved ones, and let us bring Thanksgiving Livoti’s Old World Market veterans holiday meals 4dinner to them in the spirit of giving thanks.”

On a bright, sunny day, Livoti and his family and staff delivered the meals in person to each veteran’s home. They were assisted by members of the Marlboro Township Police Department; Morganville First Aid and Rescue Squad; Robertsville Volunteer Fire Co. #1; Morganville First Aid & Rescue Squad; and Station 2 Brevent Park and Leonardo Fire Company.

Each veteran also received a special “turkey handprint” crafted by students at The Goddard School in Morganville, where Livoti’s granddaughters attend. “Those brought smiles throughout the afternoon,” Livoti said proudly.

To find the deserving veterans, Livoti’s Old World Market asked local residents to nominate an active or retired military family by submitting a brief heartwarming story and contact information for the family being nominated.

“With over 120 nominees, we were able to honor 98 military families in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties, providing them with a full Thanksgiving dinner,” Livoti said. Several dinners were also delivered to veterans at the Lyons VA Community Living Center.

JB Livoti, one of the partners who runs the Aberdeen location, said the family wanted to help people “who deserved an extra ‘thank you’ this year.”Livoti’s Old World Market veterans holiday meals 2

Throughout the year, Livoti’s Old World Market is involved in many events throughout Monmouth County. Each year, the stores donate an estimated $50,000 to local teams, organizations and fundraisers “in an effort to show the community that we truly do care about each and every individual we come in contact with,” said partner Mike Ali, who runs the Marlboro location.

Livoti’s Old World Market strives to bring old-world flavors with new world flare. Customers receive the same fine Italian cooking, fresh baked bread, quality meats, fresh mozzarella and several homemade desserts that originated in the family’s tiny town in Sicily called Siracusa.
